What about a 'points' system which recognises those people who provide lots of assistance?

Archived David S. 12 years ago

http://community.vodafone.com.au/ have a section in the right-side menu for "Top Kudos Collectors" which identifies those people who contribute the most. This provides recognition for those who get involved in the community, and given this kind of involvement is helping others who use the site, having a recognition system like this could help improve engagement with users.

User Rating System is done and can be seen on People page. You can also grab the data from that page in Top Contributors section and place it on side bar of home page or any other.

All top contributors can be granted specific permissions in the system to be moderators.

Just go to user profile who is considered to be top rated or added/commented on many topics and set him custom role that you can add in Administration for user to Manage Responses or Comments, etc.

I can see the "ratings" option on People's page. However, to make this a more immersive experience can we:

  • Get ratings to show against a community member's name wherever it appears?
  • Can we give (graphical) badges to go with incremental levels of rating-score gained?
  • Can we tweak the algorithm to change how ratings are calculated (e.g., 2 points for creating a discussion, 5points for answering a question, etc.)
  • Can we force moderators to be gain at least 100 points of ratings in order for them to maintain their special rights? This will ensure moderators continue to remain top contributors?

Do you think these features are worth being a part of standard product? If Yes, how long will it take to get them running? This would help purchase the corporate license with a perspective and hope.

All that is mentioned is possible as you'll have source code after purchase, so all solutions could be provided to you where to change the algorithm of ratings calculations and integrating badges only after purchase.

We don't think they are worth of being built-in as any other customer can have their own view on the rating system.

As of now we have algorithm like you've described: points are given if user creates discussion, comment it, and if someone rates for opinion or discussion and it can be easily tweaked or even module could be written to change it.
