Revert comment back to moderation or make private

Archived Tabby W. 5 years ago

As a community manager, I’d like to see functionality added to be able to put a comment or feature request back on moderation after it’s been approved by an admin or automatically approved by the system so that we can strategize about how to respond in cases where it might be desirable to temporarily remove a comment or request from the conversation. Examples of times this might be useful could be when a user is requesting information that might not be available to the general public yet, or if sentiment is running high and time is needed to let tempers cool before continuing the conversation.

Hello Tabby,

Is there more logic to make comment private or revert back to moderation?

The reason I'm asking, is that I want to completely understand use case, because if there are replies to this comment, what should be system behavior if comment already has some replies - what should we do with them?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi Stas,

Ultimately, as a moderator, I should have total control over what is displayed on the site, whether it is through adding/deleting requests and comments or setting the moderation level of requests and comments. The fact that I cannot toggle moderation on and off was a surprise to me, as nearly every other situation where I’ve been a moderator allows for that control, and it seems pretty standard to me.

Other ways to implement similar functionality would be an option to set all comments in a thread to “pending moderation”, and that way if a thread gets heated, all the comments are moderated, or to set all comments on the site to be moderated, whether a user has posted a comment before or not. Currently, the options for moderating comments read as though you have the option to set a user to pre-approved or not, but the functionality doesn’t actually work - once you’ve approved a user’s comment, all of their future comments are automatically approved, regardless of what setting I’ve used to approve them. This could be further controlled by “all comments pending moderation” which would set literally all comments on the thread to moderated, or “all new comments pending moderation” so all NEW comments that haven’t already been approved will be moderated - which seems like it should be the default setting for every thread anyway. You might also remove (or make toggleable) auto-approving comments for people who have an approved comment.

Hope that helps.

Hi Stas,

I cannot reply on the site.  It had me create an account, which I did, but when I try to log in, it says my password is incorrect.  I tried registering again using the same auto-generated complex password, and it tells me I can’t use the same password to register that I’m already using, but it won’t let me log in because it doesn’t recognize the password… What a weird loop to be in!  Can you take a look and see why I can’t log in using my cPanel email?

Hello,

With our new 5.1 Version, you can move comments back to moderation and these comments will become invisible for the community members.

'Move to Moderation' option can be found by clicking the arrow icon next to the comment (see attached screenshot).

Let us know if you need any clarification.

Regards, Liza
