Archived Vineet Sinha 12 years ago

I clicked on an idea quickly to vote for it - I want to remove my vote.

Currently, you can change your mind only when community has negative voting system enabled under Settings, but we'll consider that feature overall in further releases

Negative voting comes with a set of complications which is why enabling it is a challenge.

Vineet, It should be pretty easy. Just login under Admin and go to Admin->Responses Settings.

More details could be found in Admin Documentation, Responses Settings page

Stas, I don't mean complications for us deploying them - I mean that we need our users to have a positive attitude about our site.

We are always glad to hear feedback about system improvement, so some new ideas will help UseResponse improve and make users and companies life easier

Because of the community attitude that we want to maintain, this is the only feature currently preventing us from using you guys.

I understand your concern, but we try to integrate first the features that will make support process easier, but not provide universal solution for all types of needs of each community specific.

We'll consider integrating that feature into releases after 1.1 but as UseResponse is open source and modular it could be customized without problems

Updates regarding this functionality will be posted here. Also, if you have more detailed vision on that part, we'll be glad to hear it.

It seems that the common use case is the one that you have deployed here - to get feedback from the community. In this use case it seems that negative voting is not a very good idea (and help.useresponse.com does not have negative voting enabled). If you feel like negative voting should be enabled by default, feel free to enable it here. We are going to use this site to demonstrate to the team before evaluating within our organization.

However, in our feedback situations we are noticing people are clicking on votes by mistake as they are trying to figure out how to use the site. Thus the product is currently being seen by my team as having 'usability bugs'.

I did not realize that UseResponse is open source. If you point me to the code, I can tell my dev team to investigate fixing this bug. We will be willing to provide this for free to the UseResponse community.

Hello, Vineet,

Thank you for your interest in UseResponse. We are not using negative votes here at help.useresponse.com as our community is not big enough to promote active voting for responses yet (and allow negative votes). Mostly at the moment people are suggesting ideas and if other users like it, they vote for it, and that's it.

I do not think that the situation that people are clicking votes by mistake is a usability bug. We allow only registered users leave votes, and they normally think and are responsible for what they are doing. This is almost not possible to click a "Vote" button by chance. Negative votes mean that you can change your attitude to the response from positive to negative, and vice versa. There is no way to move your vote at all.

Did you check out our Demo? You can create it here - http://www.useresponse.com/trial

I was just conveying the feedback that I got from my team - and it is blocking a purchasing decision.

Regarding people not doing it by chance - the feedback was that people don't know the effect of clicking on the feature, and that they would want to ideally try it out. If they are trying something out they need to be able to undo it.

Regarding your demo and negative voting - my team pointed out that neither you guys not the other big guys in the community feedback space (UserVoice) are using it.

I understand you wanting more users before you enable negative voting here. I expect we will try to come back every once in a while to try this.

Vineet,

Whenever you ready, you are welcome to use it! We have success integration with negative voting enabled at Universo Forum

We don't use negative voting as of now, as we are releasing more and more features and don't have enough comunity as of yet.

Also, negative voting is optional for community. Someone is using it, and some companies don't. So it's up to you to decide whether your community requires it

We just evaluated negative voting at Universo Forum and found similar usability issues.

Vineet,

As of now we don't have plans to intergate that feature, but as we've mentioned, you can customize module as system is open source without problem to remove votes.

Here is example how easy is to customize the system at Custom Community. With Developer Manual it won't be a problem to do anything with the product.

Once again: We cannot make a purchasing decision unless the team sees the problems fixed. We can look at the source and try to fix it ourselves, but not if we have to pay for it before.

We've decided to incorporate it in future release as a setting. Just don't know when and how it will be working, but user will have an option to Rethink

Finally, we've done that feature possible from 3.0.2 beta version. Now you can rethink in the list of topics and on full topic page.
