Separate Admin language from user site - no need at all to translate backend

Archived Måns Larsson 11 years ago

I am in the process of translating, and I realize at least half of the work does not need to be done. And, what's worse, If I ever need to ask you about stuff in admin-panel, I will have my translated one in front of me instead of the english one.

So, much less work and better results if you separate those two.

I can agree with you on translation system in another language is hard without seeing it in context, so we'll definitely improve it in close future, just need to think of best approach. Thanks for the idea.

I agree with you, but translation system is based on dictionaries, and if you translate the wording on frontend it will be translated system-wide. If you have any ideas how to improve the system so that division between front-end and backend is vivid, let me know.

As of now, I don't see any chances of this division, and based on the dictionaries, that are taken from each module, it's the only way to use it. You translate it once and can share it with community in Extras area, so others will be grateful for your hard work.

I am afraid I don't have an answer on how to do it, I just noted the problem... :-)

If it gets good I might submit it, but its hard, very hard because I don't know in what context the words are used. In Swedish language this can be very different, and if it is translated right of you would end up with Google translate quality = very bad language.

Suggestion; with every translation I do, let me push a link or a button that loads the screen(s) that uses the translation. That way I can see if it's the correct translation for the context or not.

Recently, we've improved translation tool with extra options to outline untranslated phrases and show only translated phrases + integrated search option in all languages. This would increase the speed of translation, but still won't show the places where it's used.
