very frequent editor formatting problems

Archived Dan B. 12 years ago

Hi guys! as you know we Love UseResponse, and are using it for the BlogPress Support Community and for the Ask Dan & Jennifer Q&A Forums. :-)

We are running into a problem very frequently when answering questions in UseResponse, on both sites.

The problem is: when I am responding to a question, the text in the editor gets jumbled after I click "post response". Some or ALL of the newlines disappear. :-(

Here's a visual for you - variations of this are happening all the time: http://www.screencast.com/t/8OPNd816g1V

It SHOULD look like this (which is what I had in the editor when I clicked submit response): http://www.screencast.com/t/sEDDN6Uto

So the result is that I have to click "edit" again and re-edit the post to re-insert all the newlines. And it usually takes 3 or 4 edits until the editor keeps all the newlines.

What is even more difficult however is when I post an "official answer" (which is most of the time) - because I'm logged in and I don't see the official answer as everyone else does, instead it shows direct in the editor mode. So I have no way to know if it's screwed up or not. So I literally have to post an official answer, then open another browser where I'm not logged in and go to that same URL to see if it's messed up. (Here is the topic I'd discussed here in the forums with Anna and Stas a few weeks ago).

And if it IS messed up, I have to go back to the original browser, edit it, save it, and again re-load it in the new browser to see if it's fixed. Sometimes I have to repeat this process 3 or 4 times... as you can imagine this is really frustrating. please help. :-)

Hello, Dan.

We couldn't reproduce the bug you're described in MacOS - Chrome (latest).

Try to replace /public/assets/js/textareaResizer.js with the one from latest release. I hope this trick should solve the problem.

Dan, it would help a bit more, if you kindly list browser(s) and operating system(s) you use this (or these) browser(s) with.

Hi Vitali.

Absolutely. my primary browser is Chrome on Mac OS X 10.7.5.

Have you guys not seen this issue? :-)

Thanks!

Dan* UGH, had to re-edit this after posting. The newline between "Thanks!" and "Dan" disappeared. TWICE. :-)

I use Chrome too, latest one 22.0.1229.94 m, but on Windows. Never saw any issues. Need to check on Mac in office on Monday.
