I would like to know if I install the 3.x beta today, that I will be able to upgrade it to the 3.x final version once it is released. Or will I be required to create a fresh install of 3.x final? Thanks.
In beta releases we don't support release to release upgrade. It searves only to upgrade 2.3.x or install it as fresh system.
So you better install 2.3.x and upgrade to stable release once its live.
So you will have an upgrade path from 2.3.x to 3.x once it is final? I assumed there would be a simple upgrade script to run.

Yes, we'll have upgrade script and have it already from 2.3.x to 3.0.x but better upgrade when we'll have 3.1 stable.
