How do I make it so users can view the community but have to login to comment or vote?

Answered Lee Roquet 8 years ago

What are the recommended steps to allow users to view and search the community but if they want to post a comment or vote they have to login to the community. Right now I have the private or public option, is this the only way to accomplish my objective.

Thanks

Hello Lee,

In your case, please switch on the public community under main settings. Then go to Administration - Feedback and in both General and Votes tabs, you need to switch off anonymous feedback and anonymous votes to be off.

There is no such option, so that users could leave comments without account in topics. So they will always have to register in order to leave comments.

I think I got this to work. By turning off the private community I can now view the community, content, and search. When I go to test post or vote I am asked to login...good.

Next questions. If I am using SSO will the functionality work the same? I will pass users to the community from our website but say someone lands on the community before they have logged in, will the SSO integration just pass them to our landing page as mapped in the SSO setup?

SSO should work like this:

  • - If you have private community, users won't get access to it, until they are logged in it, so they should be forwarded to your authentication form of your main site or application;
  • - If you have public community, and use only SSO login, then once they are asked to login (when voting, leaving comment, etc) teyt would be redirected to login form of your website
