Contributing to Source Code

Archived Chris Reppy 11 years ago

My company is in the midst of customizing and implementing UseResponse and was wondering how other customers are dealing with Version Upgrades from UR. Do you have to perform a full diff of the code to prevent your customizations from being overwritten? Or, once you've customized the site, are you essentially stuck on that version forever?

Is it possible to contribute our enhancements back to UR's repository for others to use?

One 'feature' we're want to implement is the ability to grant different groups of Users access to specific Private Categories. For example, create a new Category for 'Version X Beta Testing' and then only make that Category visible to a select few Users without giving them access to the Private Categories we use internally.

I apologize for any technical ignorance on my part, I'm just the PM on this. Thanks!

Thank you for the question, Chris.

For the changes not to be overwritten, please do the customization as a separate module, in this case there won't be any problems with versions update.

Here is the link to Modules Development Documentation , please refer to our developer manual.

The module you are planning to build is quite useful, and we also got some requests for developing something similar, so I think the community will appreciate if you share it in our Extras area when done.
