I found that an "Official Representative" can mark an answer as "best answer". But is it possible for the one who initially was asking the question to mark an answer as accepted?
Sorry, we don't have that option available. Only those who manage responses (official representatives) can do this, as they identify what is the possible solution/answer for specific question, problem or idea.
It can be based on comment rating or add solution himself and make it as best answer for others to not look through all the comments

Yes, customer leave comment or official representative could just change status of topic on his own when it's considered to be resolved, or question is answered

But couldn't this reduce support work when a customer himself could say that he is satisfied with the answer?

User who opens the questions should have permission to mark it as "Best Answer" once the solution works for him. And reduces the support work.
An option to Enable or disable this option should be implemented.
