Images uploaded in WYSIWYG editor disappearing
When users use 'Image Upload' to place an image inline in a response, it works. But after a couple of weeks, they don't anymore. It shows as a broken image. Right-clicking and choosing "Open Image in New Tab", I get this URL:
http://community.pestpac.com/public/I4nkagFc6dlYIoRsMFhv.png
But it shows the main screen of the site (as seems to be standard 404 behavior).
I look in /htdocs/public/, and no files are there (only some subdirectories). Is that the right place to look? Any idea why they might be disappearing?
Hello Jason,
The problem existed in minor build, and you need to update system to latest 2.1 or 2.2 release.
Also after update - make sure, that you have folder public/files/temp and it's writable.
All attachments are stored stored in public/files/attachments and all images uploaded with WYSIWYG are stored in public/files folder
Let me know if it fixed the issue.
P.S. If you are using backup module, please restore public/files/

I'm having a problem too... does this mean my photos are lost?

Amalgam,
Do you have public/files/temp folder and it's writable? You need to check backup of your server to recover photos as Standard package doesn't have backup module
Also check if public/files is writable (777 permissions)

As you can see the image below is not being reference from the "temp" folder.. only the /public/ folder. Why would the images be "temp" anyway? How often are they deleted?

First of all, they are stored in temp while upload and moved to files folder after that. Make sure you have also files folder writable and upgrade system to the latest release.
Let us know if it helped.

So are you saying that all the posts that we have created that used uploaded images have had the images deleted?
I just uploaded another image to fix the missing one... it is now located here: http://www.northwestanswers.com/public/FzcRGpOUSg7NCcBc5r3f.JPG .... not the temp folder.

Yes, all uploaded images are stored in files directory. But temp dir is required to temporary store them while upload. We highly recommend updating system to the latest release.
make sure you have backup copy located on your server to restore images, otherwise without Backup module in useresponse, you won't restore them

Yes, the temp dir is working fine.
Who deleted my images? We lost serious time on this problem!

In the first comment we identified that we had issue with 2.1 release (early build), that is why it's always recommended to update system when you see notification in Administration->Modules, and from now on in Administration when you visit that page.
Sorry about that. We try to eliminate such problems in future and fix them really quick.
