Can I restrict the "Add" to only Idea?

Archived Paul Wilson 2 years ago

I know by default that the system selects "Idea", but I want to make sure that there is no other option within this community forum. Same as you have below, where you are only showing "Question & Idea".

I wanted to know whether this can be adjusted via settings or needs to be done via CSS?

Hi Paul,

In Administration - Applications you can disable Discussions and Questions and keep Idea as a single feedback type in your community.

Hi Liza,

Ok, but if I do that then we will not be able to have the agents create these for the users to then comment upon. Is that correct?

Correct, once you keep only Ideas, both agents and community visitors are able to submit just the idea form.

Hi Liza,

But will that stop Agents from creating "Questions" or "Discussions"?

And will the users be able to comment on these types still?

Once you disable other feedback types, they won't be available for no one either for new posts and commenting.

So your point is to allow users to submit only ideas while agents may still create discussions and questions?

Hi Liza,

That is correct, it is our intention to have the system setup on https://community.cciwa.com to allow

Users

  • Create an idea/feedback
  • Comment or reply on a discussion or question

Agents

  • Create Questions
  • Create Discussions

Help Desk/Knowledge Base - Users/Anonymous (this will be an open system - https://help.cciwa.com)

  • Submit tickets
  • View KB Articles
  • Create an idea/feedback
(is it possible to have this item not viewable publically?)

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately, it's technically impossible to accomplish your case with public ideas for users and private questions/discussions for agents.

As an alternative, you may have 2 communities:

  1. One for gathering feedback types you need - ideas, questions, discussions, or just a single type;
  2. Another one for the ticketing system with your knowledge base.

Hi Liza,

So if we do the following

  • Hide the "New Topic"
  • Change the URL in the menu to link to the Help Desk (community)

This should remove the ability for anyone to navigate to the add section within the private community.

We can then have the Help Desk which I have just created to have the ability to create an idea/feedback & ticket or review a KB article.

Does that sound correct?

Hi Paul,

If you hide the New Topic button in the private forum and redirect users to the public forum they'd be able to submit tickets and your feedback types there. But all these ideas would be visible for any guest visiting your public portal.

I'm not sure you expect such behavior.

And what about your private community - for what purpose it's designed?

Hi Liza,

Yeah, I need to discuss the visibility item with my team regarding the ideas. As this may get released at a later date.

The purpose of the private community is to have a simple way that we can ask our members questions. Have them respond/comment/reply and vote upon the questions or discussion topic.

I hope that makes sense?

Thanks

Of course, it makes sense. The private community is created for community members to post questions and discussions.

The only thing is that you cannot make ideas invisible for community visitors.
