Search sorts by date ascending

Answered Markus Hohenwarter 7 years ago

Is there a reason why the search sorts search results by date ascending and not descending?

I want to search for the latest topics, not the oldest ones by default...

Hello Markus,

I don't think search results are sorted by dates. They are sorted by relevancy of results and dates are not participated in search algorithm.

Okay, but how can we bring more relevance to more recent topics? I mean, the topics from 9 years back have definitely far less relevance than the ones from only a view months ago ...

This involves improvement of search relevancy to take into consideration date component, but the weight shouldn't be big, as new posts doesn't mean they have answers or solution, but we would consider it

Of course. I mean it all depends on what your topics are about. If you build cars, it may be cool to ignore timestamps, but if you search in the field of software that is updated frequently, a search result from 9 years back may probably not mean too much any more.
